What opportunities does the Market Post Covid bring especially for those who are looking for new opportunities in their career

A recent survey by McKinsey highlights the fact that the pandemic has accelerated remote work, automation and e-commerce with the expectation that 25% employees would need to switch their careers or upgrade their skills.

Even before the coronavirus, there was a rising digital skills gap in business around the world. In fact, digital skills are now required for 82 percent of job openings. The pandemic, on the other hand, has heightened the urgent demand for specialised digital skillsets to assist businesses in becoming more aligned with today’s diverse technologies and platforms.

With Industry 4.0, it is critical to invest not only in technologies but also in people who understand technology. Although knowing every system or platform is improbable, exhibiting a thorough working knowledge of data literacy, computer programming, big data, the Cloud, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and other topics will help us stand out.

The curriculum and design-thinking approach of SOIL made me join this programme a year ago, but now I can sense and experience it live how important it is to know the practicality of any subject. Be it Finance, Marketing, People skills or Analytics, one thing that is common is the technology which has become the necessity for all. Now, people can create more awareness through digital advertisements than what it was few years ago where pamphlets and hoardings were quite prominent. People are becoming more adapted to technology and the credit goes to the pandemic times where we were compelled to make digital payments and use necessary digital platforms. We all have seen how the Zoom and Microsoft Teams have been immensely used and how we all been able to accomplish all our tasks digitally- be it office work or the online mode of education.

According to Microsoft Asia President, Ahmed Mazhari, “Skills will be the new currency in the post-pandemic world”. So, he gives us a hint that knowing what we know is just not sufficient, we must explore more to enhance our skillset and match the pace of the digital demands. It is a great time that we utilise this opportunity to learn what we haven’t so far and give ourselves a chance to enhance our career and navigate to the path of self-development.
