Every professional has a unique journey, and Saket Mohanty’s story is one filled with hard work, learning, and growth. His career path is a mix of diverse experiences that helped him develop new skills and discover his passion for finance. Saket comes from Bhubaneswar and has 25 months of work experience. He started his career in the manufacturing industry, where he learned about operations and processes. Soon, his interest grew, and he moved to the finance sector.

Saket worked in a financial educational consultancy in finance operations. This role introduced him to the world of finance and gave him a deeper understanding of financial processes. He enjoyed this work, which encouraged him to build his expertise in finance. Later, he joined Genpact as a process developer in the collections department. This role helped him understand process optimization and collections management. It gave him real-world experience in corporate finance, strengthening his desire to grow in this field.

With experience in different industries, Saket knew it was time to move forward. He decided to pursue an MBA to gain broader knowledge and grow faster in the corporate world. After careful consideration, he joined the one-year MBA program at the SOIL Institute of Management. He also received an offer from Trinity Business School in Dublin for a master’s program. However, SOIL’s practical learning style and strong focus on leadership convinced him to stay in India. He liked SOIL’s emphasis on experiential learning and case studies, which matched his learning style and career goals.

I had received an offer from Trinity Business School, Dublin. However, I was inclined towards SOIL as the curriculums of both schools being very similar, SOIL had an edge as it offered numerous experiential learning and case study opportunities as well.”

At SOIL, Saket chose finance as his major and analytics as his minor specialization. His previous experience in finance operations helped him understand the curriculum well. He found the program challenging yet well-designed. It taught him how to manage his time and focus on important tasks. The financial modeling workshops were a key part of his learning. They provided hands-on experience and helped him apply concepts to real-world situations. These workshops made financial topics easier to understand.

Saket also enjoyed the analytics workshops and live project simulations. These projects gave him practical experience in data analysis and decision-making. Working on real-time business problems developed his problem-solving skills. He felt that SOIL’s focus on practical learning helped him prepare for the corporate world.

I would say the curriculum was very well designed, which helped me to cope with time, and make efficient utilization of the classes, the workshops, and the simulations performed as well. In financial modeling, for example, certain financial modeling workshops helped us to understand the subjects in a much more practical manner.”

After completing the program, Saket was placed at Aditya Birla Capital. His role would be that of an investment analyst, credit analyst, or risk analyst. The subjects covered at SOIL, such as strategic corporate finance, project finance, and valuation, prepared him for this role. The intensive one-year program, with 40 subjects, improved his ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks. He became more efficient and accurate in solving problems, which is a valuable skill in the real world.

Saket believes his journey at SOIL shaped his career. The combination of practical exposure, leadership training, and specialized knowledge gave him the confidence to handle new challenges. He is excited to apply his skills at Aditya Birla Capital and contribute to the company.
