Why should you do an MBA – For Your Learning & Self Development or Your Final Placement?

Being part of the SOIL PGPM Finance cohort, class of 2022, I feel very fortune to have taken that one important decision which actually transformed my career – Starting my SOIL journey – that one thought to take a break from my work-life and upgrade myself has been such a rewarding experience for me.

I still remember my first day at SOIL when I was asked to do research on a specific industry and I was left completely blank. I didn’t know what to do, how to go about it and where to start. But the faculty were gracious and patient with us, my peers and my group mates were willing to work with each other collaboratively. Slowly and steadily, as days passed, my thought process and learning style started evolving. I started analyzing various industries and their strategies, their approach to market and began understanding how we could put ourselves in the shoes of our end-users. It was like my thought process and perception was transforming as the months were passing by. I also learnt how to analyze, plan and control any future strategy with existing resources. I also learnt about time management and how to deliver my work effectively and efficiently. I developed the art of critical thinking and design thinking process which was completely new to me.

I would say SOIL provided an opportunity to me to work holistically in multiple teams. I was encouraged to participate in inter and intra collage competitions which actually helped me develop a strong network, communication and leadership skills and most importantly, I learnt how to overcome any differences that usually happen in groups and come together to a fruitful conclusion.

If I have to ask this question- Learning & Self-development or Placements, which is more important for you? Confused! Well, both are important and that’s my biggest learning in SOIL. From the very first day itself, my education started and then it was nonstop. As we know that there is no magic formula to success. It is the consequence of planning, hard work, and failed lessons and that was the motivation which helped me in my placement journey to crack the placement process for Mphasis Technologies. Mphasis is an American Indian multinational information technology services and consulting company and I joined them in the exciting role of an Account Manager.

This would not have been possible without the strong placement process at SOIL and our CMS team who were just a phone call away for me. They made me understand the role and the requirements, guided me to connect with my Alumni which helped me a lot. Also, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to my internal and external mentors who guided me at every moment whenever I felt confused. They continuously helped me overcome my weaknesses and build upon my strengths. I remember a line from my mentor that Learning never exhausts the mind and that’s my secret for success.
