SOIL Digital Learning – Student Experiences

SOIL digital learning is a completely new experience for me as never thought that an MBA program could be done online. SOIL is one of the few colleges in the country which adapted to the online model as quickly as possible. We started our classes in April itself which has provided us an additional advantage over other colleges in terms of learning and placements. This digital platform has provided me a lifetime opportunity to be a part of the Thursday Webinar Series hosted by Mr. Anil Sachdev in which I get to hear insights from Global Leaders from all across the world and learn from their experiences and journey. Thiswould not have been possible in a purely physical environment.

SOIL has an External Mentor Program in which the students are assigned an Industry expert as a mentor. This Digital platform has allowed me to connect withmy mentor as many times as I need and learn about the industry and what efforts I need to put in to fit in the industry. The fact that we are studying online, has also provided a lot of opportunities to do mock GDs and Interview sessions with different industry experts and leaders taking their feedback and work to improve myself.

The pandemic and my admission to the MBA college, both events happened concurrently. After 4-5 months of digital classes, I can proudly say it was one of the best decisions of my life. Be it physically or digitally, SOIL has its unique way to create future-ready leaders. All thanks to our professors and the SOIL alumni who have conducted various virtual lessons, starting from webinar series to leadership sessions. SOIL did not compromise with the learning of its students. Moving digitally we have our classes on Zoom, the sessions are recorded and sent to us duly so that we don’t miss out on anything. Separate doubts clearing sessions are also conducted so that we have more clarity on each and every topic. Other than this, SOIL also managed to provide us with one on one mentoring sessions with leaders from diverse fields. To tune in to this new normal SOIL has also come up with a new course on Digital Transformation to make us more competent for future job roles. During this pandemic, the digital platform has been a boon in the real sense for me. Uncertain times call for radical adaptations and SOIL truly displayed its gravitas in transforming knowledge acquisition to the digital platform.

The world around us is changing rapidly in the wake of COVID-19. Now everything is moving towards digital transformation. SOIL has arranged extra doubt clearing classes apart from the normal ones to ensure that no information dilution should happen. Also, they have provided the option to download the recordings of the sessions regularly. This has helped me a lot in cases where important information was missed out or concepts were not cleared during the online classes. The Peer Learning Initiative in SOIL, even in digital medium has given me an opportunity to know my batch mates better and to learn from them simultaneously. The digital learning has enabled me to take up new courses on Coursera and upgrade my skillsets to improve my competencies. Overall these four months’ journey in SOIL on the digital platform has proved to be quite beneficial for me. COVID-19 has given us the license to fully embrace a digital culture. So irrespective of when we join SOIL for physical classes, we must understand that this is the new normal and we have to joyfully embrace this new way of learning.

Frankly speaking, moving digital was not at all easy and initially, I faced a lot of difficulty due to maximum screen time & very less physical movement. But gradually it became more than convenient as it gets easier to discuss a particular topic over zoom calls or Microsoft teams as everyone can be on the same page. It is in fact giving me a lot more time to study & work on myself, as there is no commuting and it allows me to take up additional courses & develop my skillsets. Not just that, it has made me more digitally literate about different tools that help us in organizing our day to day activities that I wasn’t aware of earlier. So all in all, it started with mixed feelings but now that the world is moving towards digital transformation. It is high time we learn to adapt ourselves too.
