My SOIL journey till now: Some Sweeping Thoughts

During admission:

I have 4 years of work experience in IT industry and was interested in pursuing a management program. During my research about MBA programs and 1-year programs, I learnt that in India, only a few institutions offer a 1-year MBA course for candidates having 2+ years of work experience and SOIL is one of them. The admission process at SOIL is one of its kind. Firstly, I filled out the SOIL application form; you can apply irrespective of your national entrance exam scores, as SOIL conducts its own test called STAT (SOIL Talent Appreciation Test) and later a group discussion and personal interview is conducted. The admission team is very kind and approachable and I was also put in touch with some esteemed SOIL alumni so that I could talk to them and have a clear understanding of the college and the course.

About the classes:

It’s been three months since I joined the institute; my day at SOIL starts with a morning circle, which means all the students of the batch form a big circle in the auditorium, it includes offering prayers, news reading, quizzes, though of the day, interesting and interactive discussions, and it ends with the national anthem. Every student gets an opportunity to host the morning circle which helps to improve public speaking skills. Next, we will have four classes of 90 minutes each. The classroom has round tables that make the classes more interactive. The first trimester is about to end now and till now, we had various subjects like Managerial Accounting, Introduction to marketing, Corporate Finance, Introduction to strategy, Optimizations techniques, Managerial economics, etc have been covered; these subjects helped me to get the clear understanding on all aspects of management studies. The faculty at SOIL has significant industry-relevant work experience, so they can relate the concepts to industry and it helps to simplify the concepts.

About extracurricular activities:

The core values of SOIL include ethics, compassion, sustainability, mindfulness, and diversity; these are known as the 5 pillars of SOIL and are embedded in designing the curriculum of the program. As Anil sir, the founder of SOIL, says, mindfulness is the most important as it covers all the other 4 pillars. Learning the core values of SOIL helped me to improve my perspective toward businesses. SOIL focuses on all aspects of students’ well-being as we have yoga in our curriculum which helps me to relax and contributes to my wellbeing. We have various clubs like Marketing club, Finance club, Analytics club, Sports club, and many more, so it helps us to improve our core skills as each club conducts many activities like quizzes, mentoring sessions, alumni connect, etc. In conclusion, SOIL is a great place to improve my managerial skills backed by core values and well-being. Eagerly waiting for the next 9 months and can’t wait to share my overall SOIL journey.
