My experiences at SOIL – What I’m Learning

SOIL is a place where students are nurtured by the great professional faculty to become future leaders. In the situation of this pandemic when everyone was in house arrest, I started my 2 years MBA journey at SOIL School of Business Design, Manesar (Gurugram). This was the first batch in the history of education in India that started their full-time MBA through online mode. It was the start of the virtual world for us!

Our discomfort was removed completely when, right at the beginning of our course, the institute tied up with one of the best online platforms in the world – Coursera to enable us to go through foundation courses before starting with our regular academic schedule.

We started with a virtual Freshers Meet where we came to know that SOIL has a culture of ‘Namakaran’ for every new batch so we were named as The Imagineers.

Everything was set as of now and we were all ready to start our PGDM in Business Design. Design thinking and liberal arts are interwoven into the curriculum at SOIL. Well, so far learning psychology, mind mapping which is part of the design thinking leg of our program, has been outstanding. I can already experience changes in my perception and observation towards life in general and management skills, in particular. And this is what makes SOIL different compared from other B-schools in India. It focuses on the overall, holistic development of each individual student.

We also had a Self-Leadership course, which is a very exciting subject where we learnt that leadership starts from within. One of my biggest takeaways was that before leading the world, one should start with leading oneself. I see the bigger picture of an MBA at SOIL, where we are not just focused on Marketing, HR, Finance and Operations, but we are also learning how to be a better human being.

Every Friday at SOIL is different for us, especially compared to regular days. The day is known as Experiential Friday where we get to meet different professionals & experts in various fields like music, dance, fitness or yoga. These help us expand our horizons, teach us new skills and often influence us to make some of these parts of our lives. For me, it was more like lighting up a great session after heavy academic input from the week. The weekends are off so I get enough time to restore my energy to start my new week.

So far, I am confident for growth in my career both professionally and personally.
