Hi, I’m Rahul Chakraborty, a student of the PGPM 2025 batch at the SOIL Institute of Management. While we’re here to gain academic knowledge, my time in MBA has taught me that personal growth and upskilling are just as crucial as textbooks and lectures. This is where our clubs come in—a core part of our curriculum that, for me, has enriched my experience beyond the classroom.

Finding My Voice with the Toastmasters Club

Public speaking is a powerful skill, yet for many (including myself), it doesn’t come naturally. Joining the Toastmasters Club has been a game-changer. Here, we work on everything from vocabulary-building to tackling stage fright. Each meeting is a new challenge, pushing me to express myself confidently in front of my peers. I now approach presentations with less anxiety, and this progress is incredibly rewarding.

Developing Analytical Thinking in the Consulting and Entrepreneurship Clubs

One of the things I’ve enjoyed the most is the case study competitions organized by the Consulting and Entrepreneurship Clubs. These competitions allow us to dive into real-world business problems and test our analytical thinking. With the Consulting Club’s guidance, I’ve sharpened my skills in breaking down complex scenarios, working with teams, and developing solutions that make sense in real-world applications. It’s both challenging and fulfilling, and these skills will undoubtedly serve me well in the future.

Wellness Club: Keeping the Mind and Body Fit

The Wellness Club offers a supportive environment where we can focus on our mental and physical health—something I realized is essential when balancing a rigorous academic schedule. Through activities like yoga and fitness sessions, I’ve learned to manage stress better. The club also promotes mental health awareness, reminding us that taking care of ourselves is a priority. I find the Wellness Club a great retreat from the academic grind, offering a space to recharge and connect.

Embracing Peer-to-Peer Learning and Diversity

Our MBA experience isn’t complete without peer learning, and I believe the clubs play a pivotal role in this. With students from diverse backgrounds coming together, every interaction is a new learning opportunity. The Peer Learning Club takes this up a notch by promoting sessions where we learn from one another’s unique experiences. This diversity creates a supportive learning environment and boosts our learning curve exponentially. Each conversation, debate, and collaboration has something to teach us.

Clubs: Beyond Academics, Into Personality Building

I often hear that MBA is all about academics, but the truth is that it’s about shaping ourselves into well-rounded individuals. Each club—be it the Toastmasters Club, Entrepreneurship Club, Finance Club, Cultural Club, Wellness Club, or Consulting Club—contributes to developing a broader skill set that textbooks alone could never provide. From tackling stage fright to thinking on our feet in case studies, these clubs are preparing us for the real world.

So, if you’re starting your MBA journey, my advice is simple: dive into the clubs. They’re a key to building friendships, finding mentors, and gaining experiences that will shape you professionally and personally.
