Creating Business Leaders with a sense of Social Responsibility

SOIL believes in not only creating business leaders but also instilling in its students a sense of Social Responsibility – so that its students can make a substantial contribution to society by becoming change agents. The values and ethos that SOIL advocates like Empathy, Compassion, Mindfulness can be effectively imbibed in students through engagement in the Social Innovation Program.

The SIP is a sixteen-week student immersion program in which students are engaged through SOIL Partner NGOs. Students work in collaboration with these organizations dedicated to achieving excellence and bringing change in society. Government-run groups, non-profits, for-profit social ventures, and educational institutions are all possibilities that students can choose from. Each student focuses on a specific project of the NGO, which may include different divisions of the organization such as process improvements, marketing, fundraising, volunteer engagements, feasibility studies, and financial improvements, among others.

This year, twenty-one non-governmental organizations (NGOs) expressed interest in collaborating with SOIL on this program. All of these non-governmental organizations work in various areas of the social sector, such as child education, women’s empowerment, cancer assistance, stem cell awareness, and so on. Navjyoti India Foundation, National Thalassemia Welfare Society, Read India, Esha, She for Change, Khushboo Welfare Society, Spark Minda, Muskaan Dreams, and many others are among the major NGOs that are in partnership with SOIL this year.

Pooja Sharma, PGPM, Class of 2022 shares her experience: “SIP is an enriching experience for all of us. Part from being able to apply my MBA knowledge and skills, it inculcates a feeling of fulfilment in me. Despite all the challenges that the pandemic brought, ‘Cansupport’ is working towards creating a caring and supportive society where people with cancer and their families live with dignity, hope, and comfort. One thing that stood out to me was when Dr. Ambika Rajvanshi, CEO of Cansupport said “We cannot add days to the patient’s life, but can surely add life to their days”. I feel extremely blessed and excited to be a part of this organization and support them with every means possible.”

Kush Jain, PGPM, Class of 2022 – “I went to Muskaan Dreams NGO in Indore to meet the prestigious team. It was a very enriching and learning experience for me. I learned about their digital classroom, its operation, and the infrastructure required to set it up. in addition, I came to know about Digital Shiksha Chatroom that works like a chatbot and helps to resolve all common query or concerns along with the learning material. I am working with them to support them in their business development and operations endeavours.”

Balaji Singaram, PGPM – HR, Class of 2022: “I am associated with Safe in India – an NGO that works for the benefit of any injured workers who met with accidents at the workplace. The organisation takes care of and educates them on ESIC claims, etc thereby working for the welfare of the labor workforce.’’

Golla Satya Harish, PGPM, Class of 2022 – “I feel like I was blessed to get Saksham Bal Vikas Sanstha to do service. Here, I am teaching computer classes to class 7th and will be taking some programming sessions for interested students. I have always been anxious of public speaking and teaching others and was encouraged to take this role to overcome my fears. The Social Innovation Program is helping me to interact with the younger generation and teach them innovative ways like questioning, brainstorming, digital class with presentations, etc. Here, I design their syllabus, give assignments, pre-reads, and set up exams for their assessment.’’
