My MBA Experience: First Semester at SOIL

My Journey at SOIL started in May when I decided to boost my career by getting a professional degree and take my career graph to a significant level where I always wished it to be. Doing a PGPM from SOIL was the best decision I made, as I was lacking some interpersonal skills which were somehow impacting me in my professional career, and hopefully, they will be fulfilled in this bright institute.

Just after our induction/orientation program, I experience that it’s not just simply studying here, but a lot more. We are now more into our academics and time is just flying by in a very fast manner. The last two and half months just passed like a storm which contains various case studies, group studies, presentations, projects, assignments, cultural events, formation of various clubs and student councils, mock interviews, group discussion rounds, and many more.

It’s just a whole new experience where we learn how to work together in groups, work in a team, understand the importance of collaboration with different kinds of talents, manage time, and multi-tasks at the same time. From these all activities, we got to know each other closely and learned the best qualities from each other as well.

Now talking about subjects, then we are introduced to a lot of new subjects which earlier we didn’t read or have information about. As many of us are related to IT or Engineering backgrounds, and so getting knowledge about Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Strategy, Economics and Business Communication is a diverse experience. We all got to learn a lot in depth about these subjects, different kinds of working models, frameworks, understanding different data, etc.

Further Self-Leadership classes are one of the best lectures which are taken by Mr. Anil Sachdev himself, that broadens our horizons. With these we learned to know more about the self which was missing in most of us due to busy life schedule, the learnings are related to gratitude, bias, and so on. Along with leadership class, we are also introduced to one of the greatest Yoga instructors, Susie Mam who takes lectures on Yoga and gives training on some basic yoga exercises and mindfulness practices. That was a great part of this curriculum which taught us how to overcome stress, relax and clean our bodies, and how to calm down during an anxiety attack. It helped us keep the right balance between our studies and mindfulness.

Most of us now know each other very well as we have already spent a few months together and are learning from each other. Apart from that, we are constantly working with each other to improve ourselves. Now at this time, the Student Council has also been formed along with 20 different types of clubs which have very diverse fields including cultural events club, toastmaster club, editorial club, sports club, mudra (finance) club, photography, and so on. Each club has started its activities so that all of us students are engaged in our favourite activities with ongoing academics. Also, we have celebrated some amazing events here such as when the Cultural club recently organized an Eid event during Morning Prayer which was wonderful, then we have also celebrated Guru Purnima in which students showed gratitude to all our gurus and faculty members and we hope in coming days we will celebrate more events fully.

In conclusion, the challenges and the difficulties which we are facing now in this one-year PGPM program will surely lead us towards a journey of self-improvement and learning of self-leadership. Hence, I am looking forward to enjoying this journey with great learning and challenges and making it an unforgettable experience of my life.
