Leadership is not limited to those with a corner office or high acclaims on their wall. Leadership is not limited to those with titles such as "Chief" or "Vice President." Self-Leadership — an individual who is intentional about influencing themselves and others toward a common goal — is one of the most frequently overlooked, underinvested in, and largest gaps in developing human capital in an organization.

SOIL recognizes this ideology and guides their students down this path. Self-leadership classes and lectures are ingrained into SOIL’s culture. Inherited with SOIL values, all self-leadership sessions are mindful and engaging that give a huge boost to oneself and matches our potential to meet the needs of self-proclaim to attain the highest within oneself.

Self-leadership entails developing and managing your personal energy in order to initiate, motivate, and perform at a high level, as well as improving and sustaining your organization’s leadership philosophy on an individual level. It includes everything from how you wake up and go about your morning routine to the strategies you employ to keep your daily life running smoothly and organized. It is the image of yourself that others see that inspires and empowers everyone to strive for excellence in all activities performed toward a common goal. Through various self-leadership modules and sessions, we have learnt and grown. Here are some key lessons:

You are the most difficult person to lead. You must first learn to lead yourself before you can lead others. Procrastination and ambiguous goals are two of the most common reasons for not intentionally growing to your full potential. Engagement will suffer as long as you or your organization do not grow, and you will become a victim of the environment around you.

First and foremost, you must define your goals for yourself. On a piece of paper, write down your goals and the reasons for them. If you write them down, your chances of success will increase significantly. Then you must begin to believe that you have already accomplished them. Your subconscious mind will then start filling in the blanks. "What you think becomes your reality." You can hold it in your hand if you can see it in your head. The same is true for the organisation you lead. If you keep saying that your organisation is high-performing, your results will eventually catch up.

Put your primary emphasis on what is working and encourage continuous improvement. Recognize individuals and groups that are actively working toward the company’s goals. People will follow leaders who develop themselves and hold themselves accountable. People do what they see.

Your leadership attitude is also contagious. It’s similar to perfume in that no one can see but everyone can smell. Be a role model and the change you want to see in the world.
