I have witnessed instructors with high energy levels, as well as teachers who believe in the power of silence. Instructors who thrive in their careers as educators have their own unique engaging styles. My Marketing professor would challenge us with quizzes on recent content from Brand Equity on each Wednesday and would give us detailed feedback on our class presentations. My Finance professor had an amazing sense of humour and bought discussions to the class which created a desire to explore further on every topic. My OB professor ensured that each topic was discussed furiously till each student got a chance to let off steam. And I truly enjoyed being in each of their classes.<\/p>\n
Engaging Millennial students and Gen Z in the class today is challenging as well as immensely rewarding for me as a professor. .As I work tediously to achieve the \u2018Learning Outcomes\u2019 for all my classes, I am surprised by what one can achieve by observing, listening and paying attention to the students and the class. As an educator, I am continuously learning from their fresh perspectives.<\/p>\n
At SOIL we practice \u2018Reflection\u2019 in class. Reflecting helps us to question, in a positive way, what we do and why we do it and then deciding whether there is a better, or more efficient, way of doing the same thing in the future. Therefore, self – reflection is an important part of the learning and transformation journey at SOIL.<\/p>\n
Each student is nudged to spend time on self-reflection and then group-reflection. They are encouraged to raise questions or find answers to complex problems from within. They learn to \u2018connect the dots\u2019 over various experiences, courses, etc, during their education with us and practice \u2018Mindfulness’. As Instructors we embolden them to explore alternative scenarios and delve deep into their \u2018mindsets\u2019. Personally I have my antennas up for \u2018outlier\u2019 views which are contrarian in nature. These thinking geniuses will usually be booed down by the class, but I view them as opportunities for exploring the wonderful inclusiveness of ideation.<\/p>\n
My perspective is not to simply feed my class with knowledge but to help them to discover true knowledge.<\/p>\n
